High School

We are a college-preparatory, Christian high school with emphasis on math, science, language arts, foreign language, computers, and advanced/honors electives, all centered within an accepting Christian atmosphere.  For more than 30 years our school has been providing academic excellence at the secondary level to Horry County families.  Recognizing the direction that education is going in the 21st Century, we have partnered with one of the nation's finest academic high school programs available online, Lutheran High School of Orange County  (LHS), California; also know as Orange Lutheran High School Online (OLO).

For academic requirements and course descriptions check out Orange Lutheran High School Online.

Education in the 21st Century

C
yber-space technology is becoming an essential element in day-to-day living, more and more.  We live in an online world.  Since governments, businesses and individuals alike are capitalizing daily on the numerous advantages of the Internet, it is reasonable to expect institutions-of-learning to do likewise; and they are.  Colleges and universities have for many years offered a variety of academic courses that leverage the power of the Internet.  And most recently, Horry County Schools have introduced into their High School curriculum which they are offering to students on a limited basis.  Clearly, educators, at all levels, have accepted the fact that online education is an ideal format for enhanced active-learning; consider these advantages:

  • A front-row seat in every classroom

  • Personal one-on-one teacher access and guidance

  • Class materials, lectures and discussions are in written form providing time to gain a deeper understanding before responding and contributing to class discussion

  • Flexible school-day hours

  • Learning in a non-threatening environment

Academic Difference:

O
ur high school, as developed by Orange Lutheran Online (OLO), has been carefully developed to prepare students for matriculating into the country's finest colleges and universities.  Records indicate that OLO online students have demonstrated academic success of exemplary proportion; consider:

1. One-third of the graduates receive recognition awards from the National Honor Society;
2. Final GPA and SAT scores substantially higher than the national average;
3. College credits transferred (GradPlus dual-crecdit courses);
4. 93% of graduating seniors continue their education, some at the nation's most prestigious universities.

Personal Growth Difference:

Our Board and Staff believe that education is not only academics, but developing social skills and exploring their God-given talents and purpose for their lives.  Unlike other online HS curriculums, our high school has an on-campus faith-in-action sequence known as the Student Seminar Program led by certified staff mentors.  Sample focus areas are:

1. Internalizing the Gospel message of salvation;
2. Inter-action Bible Study;
3. Worship;
4. Student social activities, and Christian service activities throughout our community; and
5. Ongoing course and career path guidance.

Extra-curricular Difference:

Students wishing to participate in organized sports (gymnastics, golf, basketball, soccer, football, etc.) at all skill levels have the flexibility to do just that.  The online class-work is available to students 24/7 at any internet connection site nation-wide.  Community based sports programs at the junior varsity/varsity levels are available throughout Horry County. Non-traditional extracurricular activities are available on-campus with qualified staff.

Diploma & Non-Diploma Programs:

Our school offers both a Diploma Program and a Non-Diploma Program.

Diploma Program students are required to complete 24 credit courses (combination of required and elective courses) and the Student Seminar Program for graduation; typically a 4-year program of study.  Although the curriculum is challenging and engaging, students can complete this curriculum in 3-years, taking just three courses every eight weeks; this requires class during the summer semester.
Non-Diploma Program
students may enroll in any 8-week single-course earning course credits to supplement an existing course of study at another institution or high school program such as home schooling.  Note, also, that the online classroom, with its 24/7 flexibility, allows a student to take full advantage of Summer semester offerings.

Accreditation:

Graduates will receive a fully accredited high school diploma from Lutheran High School of Orange County (LHSOC); the institution of record for the academic credit courses.  LHSOC is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation Organization (NLSA) and, since 1978, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
